DHI, or Direct Hair Implantation, is an advanced form of permanent hair restoration designed to deliver dense, natural – looking results with exceptional precision. This technique is an evolution of the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method and retains its minimally invasive nature while enhancing accuracy at every stage – especially during graft implantation.
What sets DHI apart is the use of a specialized medical tool known as the Implanter Pen. This device allows the surgeon to simultaneously control the angle, depth, and direction of each implanted follicle with unmatched precision, resulting in a more refined and natural appearance compared to conventional FUE techniques.
The procedure begins with trimming or shaving the hair at the back of the scalp – known as the Donor Area. This region is genetically resistant to the DHT hormone, making it ideal for harvesting strong, permanent hair follicles. The number of available grafts is carefully assessed to ensure the donor area remains aesthetically pleasing after extraction.
Local anesthesia is administered to the donor area to ensure the patient is comfortable throughout the procedure. A fine punch tool, just 0.7 – 0.9 mm in diameter, is used to extract individual follicular units. This step requires precision and experience to avoid damaging the grafts and the surrounding follicles.
Once extracted, grafts are placed in a specialized preservation solution that nourishes and protects the follicle cells, enhancing their survival and regrowth. The grafts are then sorted under a high – magnification microscope, based on the number of hairs per follicular unit, to ensure precise placement in the recipient area.
Each graft is carefully loaded into the DHI Implanter Pen – an advanced tool that allows for controlled angle, depth, and direction of implantation. This tool enables the doctor to place grafts directly into the scalp without the need to create incisions beforehand. The result is a high-density, natural – looking hairline that blends seamlessly with the existing hair.
After implantation, the area is covered with a protective cap. Patients return the following day for a gentle cleansing and will receive follow-up care throughout the first year to monitor progress.
